How are students selected as 21st Century Leaders?
To apply, students complete the program application on our website. The application includes short answer questions as well as a teacher recommendation. Students are often nominated for our program by teachers, community leaders and organizations, but any interested student can apply.
Students must complete an Application for Program Membership and be accepted before they can register for 21st Century Leaders events, including the Summer Leadership Institutes, Fall Rally Day and Winter Leadership Weekend.
21st Century Leaders are selected on the basis of leadership potential, teacher recommendations, and the desire to develop their leadership skills. 21st Century Leaders are motivated towards high achievement and over 90% enter college upon graduation.
What does it cost to participate?
- Tax-deductible contributions from corporations, foundations and individuals help us continue to keep our fees low and ensure that all young people have the opportunity to participate. Fees represent about 20% of the total program cost.
- There is no program membership fee, but each event has a registration fee. Fall Rally Day registration fee is $15; Winter Leadership Weekend is $55; and the summer program registration fee is $195. Youth from specific schools and community agencies are supported through grants and other contributions resulting in a reduced registration fee.
Students are engaged in:
- an annual one-week summer program on a college campus;
- week-end retreats, service projects and other practical experiences;
- awards and recognition, internship opportunities and college scholarships.
