How has your career unfolded and how did participating in 21CL help prepare you for your next steps going to college, taking on a new leadership role in community/college and after?

I believe my career is a testament to staying the course and trusting the dream in your heart. I’ve always been passionate about media, film, and entertainment, and although the journey came with challenges, participating in the 21st Century Leaders “Leadership Unplugged” summer leadership institute the summer before my senior year helped clarify what I needed to do to make those dreams a reality while exposing me to an ever-changing industry. While my career is still unfolding, 21CL gave me a strong foundation by building my personal confidence, teaching me how to set goals and advocate for myself, and preparing me to approach new opportunities with intention. As I transitioned into college, I felt ready to navigate academics, build relationships with peers and faculty, and step into leadership roles, including positions in my sorority and other campus organizations, while continuing to lead with purpose.

What’s your memorable or ‘aha’ moment during your time at 21CL? (Particular program, meeting a professional and diverse peer, speaking in public for the first time, etc.)

One of my biggest “aha” moments during 21CL was a luncheon at the CNN Center where we spoke directly with executives and employees about our interests and passions. I remember feeling nervous at first, but as the conversation unfolded, I realized I was capable of speaking confidently about what I cared about. That moment showed me the power of finding my voice and helped me understand that networking is less about perfection and more about authenticity and connection.

Did 21CL assist you in developing a leadership style that makes you an effective leader? If so, how?

Absolutely. 21CL helped me transition into an empathetic and collaborative leader. By prioritizing self-reflection and diverse perspectives, I learned to lead inclusively from a young age. The communication and critical thinking skills I developed during that time continue to serve as the foundation for every professional role I hold today.

Why do you believe programs like 21CL are important? And what advice would you give to a current or future student?

Programs like 21CL are vital because they demonstrate the power of exposure and community. I am incredibly grateful for my experience; it led to an internship with the Turner Voices program, where I learned directly from executives at Turner Broadcasting (now Warner Bros. Discovery). Gaining that real-world industry experience before college allowed me to approach my curriculum with a unique perspective. It was truly an invaluable opportunity.

My advice to current and future students is to ‘network across’ (as Issa Rae says!). The peers you are in rooms with now are the ones who will help you open doors tomorrow. Nurture those relationships and stay in touch. Most importantly, trust your heart and believe in yourself. Anything is possible.
